Geo A Day

I recently discovered Geo A Day, a website where Artist and designers Jerimiah Shaw and Danny Jones explore geometric shapes one day at a time. Their work is fantastic and very inspiring!

DIY Drawer Pull Hanger

I love decorative drawer pulls. When faced with a store display of these little guys I tend to get overwhelmed by the fabulous colours, textures and shapes and usually walk away with a handful of them with no real plan in mind. Well... this is the perfect project if you too share this love of drawer pulls (or if you need a unique hanger for your home). Head over to HGTV.ca for step by step instructions to make your own drawer pull hanger!

I Was Outside!

Back in June I was finding it very difficult to blog. As the days were getting nicer it was very hard to spend my free time inside on the computer. Well the days are getting chillier and shorter so inside I go. This is coinciding perfectly with an itch to return to the blog-o-sphere.

This summer was a great one. The weather was perfect and we packed in quite a few adventures and projects (that I hope to get around to sharing). One of my summer projects that I am most proud of is planting a small vegetable garden. Sceptical at first, I don't do so well with house plants, I (with major help from my mom) successfully grew tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and green peppers! I got off to a bit of a rocky start with over watering but I quickly got the hang of this whole gardening thing. As my garden is very close to closing up shop for the winter I am quite excited about next years crop and venturing into the world of flowers. I hope to plant a few perennials and shrubs in the coming weeks which I will also share!

I love me some home

I recently discovered the duo, Johnnyswim and their new album called Home. Todays handlettered piece was inspired by a line in that title track. I love me some home.

Chalkboard Garden Jar

Start saving your salsa jars! (or any other jars). Young and old will enjoy this great outdoor project. Using a clean salsa jar with the label still intact (if you lose the label in the cleaning process cut a new label using a heavy cardstock or kraft paper) use green painters tape to cover the exposed glass on the top and bottom. Apply two coats of chalkboard spray (found at any home hardware store) on the label and let dry. Add your plant, flower or herb of choice into the jar and use chalk to write whatever you'd like on the label! Have fun!

Sweet Paul's Rhubarb Strussel Cupcake

Rhubarb seems to be everywhere these days and I love it! This weekend I wanted to make some sort of Rhubarb bake good and decided to go with a recipe I had seen in one of my all time favourite online magazines, Sweet Paul. I can see why he labels these as his favourite summer cupcake! They are deeelish! Click here for the recipe!

She sells sea shells

What a great long weekend! I survived the Bluenose Half Marathon. Not in the time I had hoped but survived none the less. Besides running there was lots of time spent with great friends eating great food and just relaxing. Yesterday I spent most of the afternoon sketching outside and practising my hand lettering. As you can see I have been doing a lot of lettering using fine point pens and then going back in and filling in loops and swooshes.

I love my bike

This wonderful print is found here.

I noticed online that today is Bike to work day. This is something that I do most mornings and I absolutely love getting around this city on my two wheeled companion. I was a little nervous at first... adding 2 or 3 extra blocks to my routes to avoid certain intersections but with my hand signals down and intersection confidence it's great! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! On Sunday I will be relying on my two feet to get me through the Bluenose Half marathon. Good luck to all the runners!!

Bow Ties & Butterflies

Oh kraft paper how I love they. I do not like the letter "B"... well hand lettering it at least. But this week I chose to tackle it. As I wrote Bow-Ties over and over again and started doodling I started seeing them as little butterflies.

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a great weekend! I am looking forward to a night with some fabulous ladies, a couple of "easy does it" runs before the Bluenose Half Marathon next weekend and digging out the old sewing machine for a few projects I hope to share next week! I took the photo above  at the wonderful Gaspereau Vallery Fibres in the Valley.

I thought I loved letterpress before! How incredible is this city made of different sized metal letter pieces! This is a creation by artist Hong Seon Jang.

Captured: Coffee in the Morning

I am quite proud to say that I have moved into the realm of manual settings on my camera and I am having a lot of fun playing with aperture and light. I have been reading a few books but I found this fantastic blog that really breaks down all of the settings and has lots of great pictures! These are a few shots I took on the weekend while I enjoyed the early morning sunshine and coffee.

Love Me Do

I seem to be inspired by the lyrics from the songs I have in my head when I am hand lettering. I am officially hooked on blending ink with water colours so the style of this piece is very similar to the last. I hope everyone has a great week!

Sunshine on my shoulders

... makes me happy! Since the calligraphy workshop I've been having so much fun exploring and experimenting with lettering. I've broken my own rule a bit and have gone with a phrase as opposed to practising just a word... I couldn't help myself! I was hooked on making those S's. I really enjoyed incorporating some watercolour into this one as well. Here's to a sunny Thursday!
